If money was no object, my house would be decked out with vintage Eames furniture and art. It would look like the home of Charlie’s angels and I’d wear a 60’s brunch coat in the afternoons, just before my regular dinner parties. Hell, I’d even have one of those beds that fold down from the wall by a remote - how very shagadelic! But in the meantime, I have to stick to my budget and admire their furniture from afar. eames

The husband and wife duo, Charles and Ray Eames, were American designers from the 40’s-70’s who were groundbreaking for their time. Much of the current, contemporary furniture (think of IKEA’s range) and architecture is influenced by their innovative and sleek designs. They weren’t just furniture and architect designers, they also delved into photography, art and film. Their work is easily distinguishable and highly sought after.

I find it so hard to believe that some of these designs were created in the 40’s! They were definitely ahead of their time. Let’s take a look at some of their original and refurbished pieces which encapsulate the Eames look (and which I’d kill to have in my pad).

I’ve been bidding in eBay on starburst clocks (like the green one above) for the past 6 months. Everyone seems to want one and are willing to pay jaw-dropping prices for them. I still have hope there will be an el cheapo one with my name on it!

So do you dig the Eames look? Or am I just stuck in the past?

Oh! And have a look at my guest post in reLYME! It’s an awesome blog, written by an even awesome-er writer, Beka, for the awesomest people on the net. Check it, yo.
