Artist Of The Week - Anne Taintor
I was looking to buy a postcard for my friend in ebay and happened to come across these;

They had me in fits of laughter! I ended up buying these three postcards (and didn’t find one for my friend…) and have placed them up on my wall. Every time I see them I giggle. I read the back and found the genius behind these masterpieces is Anne Taintor.
Anne is a professional cartographer but in the late ‘80’s she was trying to discover ways to spend less time in her job so she could spend more quality time with her daughter. She began collecting vintage pictures from the `40’s and `50’s which she then altered to include witty and humorous phrases. The phrases in the collages aim to depict what the subject might really be thinking. Her clients absolutely loved them and after awhile she became brave enough to concentrate on this line of design and turn it into a career. Now she has built up her empire and sells compact mirrors, stationary, magnets, stickers, flasks, air fresheners, pins, bags and accessories!
What’s really cool is that she has found some of the models in her pictures and writes a biography about them in her website. It’s so facintaing to read the story behind the picture. She asks the public to mail her if you are, or know of, one of the models. Do you know any of these women?
I find every single one of Anne’s designs hilarious. I wish I could show you all of them here, but there’s not enough room! I think they might be suited more for the ladies as a lot of the designs have that underlying feminist voice, but I’m sure a lot of men would get a kick out of them too. I really suggest you go check out her website, she’s an absolute mastermind.

Big love,

Wonderful - love retro-art of which there is a fair bit over here. Am going to check her out.

Interesting - so it’s a whole commercial thing now, a little like Anne Geddes with the babies. Although I like this concept better. Do you do similar, Ivy?
By the way - which part of Melbourne? I was Richmond but had friends and family from Greensborough to Mt. Martha.

Yeah, you’re so right! I agree though - this concept is far more interesting, and actually appeals to a bigger audience.
I definitely don’t do similar work, but you’ve given me an idea… Although I guess I do psychedelic/60s and 70s art, but with a modern twist - does that count as vintage art?
I can’t believe you lived in Richmond!! How bizarre! I’m more in the south-eastern suburbs - have you heard of Clarinda?
