How To Make A Hoodie Scarf (Scoodie)

I was chatting to my friend the other day and we were talking about the trend of tartan, tasseled scarfs. It never occurred to me but she said they’re probably Middle Eastern influenced, which makes a whole lot of sense. Especially with the Middle East being at the forefront of the media within the last few years. I think scoodies (the half hoodie, half scarf) really fits into the Middle Eastern trend too, as they remind me of hijabs.
I’ve wanted a scoodie for a while now but haven’t had much luck finding one to my liking. I did find one in eBay that was $40 but it had fluoro green stripes on it - I didn’t want to pay that much for something I only kind of liked. So, I decided to make my own! And not only have I made my own but I’ve made it in the easiest way possible; a 2 step instruction guide. I haven’t got much patience when it comes to crafting, even though I love crafts, I also like to cut corners because I just really want the end result!

So I grabbed an old hoodie which was from a thrift store for a couple of bucks. The arms were too short so I never actually wore it. It’s very electro/nu wave. Then all I did was;
Step 1. Cut straight up the middle of the hoodie (along the green line).
Step 2. Starting from the shoulder seam which joins to the hood, I cut (along the red lines) both sides straight down until I reached the bottom. I wanted to create a slight flare in the scarf so I cut it on an angle. Then I just cut around the back of the hood!
And that’s it! Easy as pie, or as my mate likes to say, a piece of piss. If you’d prefer a neater and more professional looking scoodie, then you’d probably want to hem the sides of the scarf. Although my scoodie is made from fleece, so there’s no great need for a hem as fleece doesn’t fray.
If you want to get really crafty, then maybe you’d like to make a reversible scoodie with a different pattern on the inside! It’d be extra warm with another layer, too.
And check out my little moving GIF! Peek-a-boo! I created it using the Myspace Animated GIF Generator. Although the quality of the photos turn out shite when converted to GIFS. But it’s still cool. I think I’ll be making more of them. They make me happy.

Scoodie… I’ve never heard of one before. I like them! n_n But I think that I’ll stick to buying one, I’m not really crafty myself and basically everything I try to craft turns to dust. Anyways good tutorial and the GIF is awesome (eve if the pic quality isn’t).
Loads of kisses.

How fun!!! I always love visiting your site, it’s so cool. I’ve seen these around. It’s getting so hot in Florida I’m not sure if it would be a good idea to wear them. The animator thingy is awesome.

Angie - Ang, you are totally right! Man, we could start our own scoodie stall at a doof… hmm… cha-ching! Hehe
