Andrea Crews - Sustainable Fashion

I love everything this woman stands for. Maroussia Rebecq, the founder of Andrea Crews, is an artist, film maker, activist and fashion designer with a difference. What’s revolutionary about Rebecq is she creates her designs with recycled second-hand clothes which would normally be thrown away when deemed “uncool”. This idea counteracts the current, often destructive consumer system which produces a huge amount of waste. It’s like the dumpster-diving of the fashion industry. She believes second-hand clothing is a “social, economic and ethical choice”. Her concern for the environment has led her to work along side of humanitarian associations, schools and other committed partners.

Andrea Crews has an open and active workshop in the heart of Pigalle, Paris’ red light district, where installations and exhibitions are constantly in action. A place of creation, production and exhibition, Andrea Crews is a hot spot of emerging culture. Many artists and designers come together in the workshop and create quirky, bright, graphic and often hilarious designs which you’d expect to see in a fashion magazine. The philosophy is that clothing should be a playful medium, one which blends art and fashion.

You can check out her Myspace page here, which has a pretty cool video and some kick ass photos, or even watch her completely wack runway in action here; warning: there’s a lot of ass involved.

Big love,
