The notorious Rosemount Australian Fashion Week wrapped up a few days ago, so I thought it’d be fun to check out some of the highlights! A few of the stand-out trends were braided hair, Swarovski crystals and pale skin. Black seemed to play a big part in this years show to the dismay of international buyers. Was there a ‘play it safe’ attitude from Australian designers?

My absolute favourite designer in this years RAFW was Michelle Jank. She designs gorgeous dresses but when she adds her signature birds they become fairytale-like and romantic.

Daniel Avakian added a space-age, almost gothic rockabilly look to RAFW. It gave a feeling that some of the models were prestige business women by day and kick arse super heroes by night.

I’ve always loved Akira Isogawa’s flirty and feminine style, and this year was no exception. He ended the show with a collection of pieces in saturated colours which included floral prints, slick hair, killer wedges and surprising head-wear.

Kirrily Johnston kicked off RAFW this year with her “Modern Nomads” collection. I absolutely love her originality and ability to add a story to her wearable art. There was a lot of ruched punjab pants and loosely draped tops. The staff added to the already enchanting outfits.

Ginger and Smart included their signature prints and quirky yet chic accessories. They added a free-spirit feel to RAFW which was a refreshing change to the elegant and glamorous. I love the Jimi Hendrix look of ties around the legs!

Alex Perry displayed his classic, elegant and chic pieces. Femininity and glamour are never far from Perry. He’s forte is evening wear and as always, he delivered the goods this year.

Kate Sylvester showcased her military inspired collection which revealed neutral coloured pieces, military medals and studs. There was a bit of controversy surrounding her use of medals in the designs, which the RSL stated was “disrespectful to servicemen and women”.

Lee Mathews’s batch of Ned Kelly inspired pieces was apt for RAFW. He complimented the style with a loosely unkempt plaits. I find it hard to see Ned Kelly in this particular dress, but I love it soooo much.
