Stealing Sophie’s Style

I am a huge fan of Project Runway Australia, I couldn’t ask for a better replacement for my Australia’s Next Top Model addiction. (If like me, you don’t have cable TV, you can catch the episodes here.) Even though I adore (most) of the outfits from the designers, I’ve had my eye on Sophie Spalding’s personal attire. She’s a 22 year old from Adelaide, Australia, who manages her mum’s vintage store, Hero Vintage Designs, whilst also producing her own vintage-inspired designs. She doesn’t have her own label yet (rats!), but if her pieces are anything like the clothes she wears, she’s somebody to watch out for! Sophie’s just been eliminated from the show, so let’s take a look at her retro, Marilyn Monroe, London in the 50’s style from the three episodes she was in.

Sophie and her evening dress - I quite like it, it’s well crafted and has darts in all the right places. I’m not so sure about the second outfit she collaborated with Petrova. I think it’s just the spring on the head which distracts me from looking at the rest of the outfit, which was created entirely out of car parts (!).

Hair rollers, giant vintage cluster earrings, 60’s shift dresses, polka dots, black tights, floral dresses, leather jacket (with tartan lining!), a huge bouffant and red lipstick - I’m in love! She’s actually inspired me to dye my hair white - can you imagine?! No, I can’t either, but I’ll have a shot at it (will post photos if it doesn’t look too ridiculous!).

Here are some of Sophie’s looks created in the oh-so fun Polyvore! (I swear I could be Polyvore’s spokesperson, I love playing in there.)

I adore the plaid dress and leather jacket look. You’d think plaid and leather would equal punk, but with the right cuts and accessories, it turns into a little 60’s number.

Is anyone else a Project Runway fan? I’m watching Project Runway US too - talk about fashion addict! Do you guys dig Sophie’s look too? Does it float your boat and rock your world?

Big love,
