Typical 1980’s Outfits
Ah, the 80’s. A time of arcade games, slapbands, big hair, Flashdance, Madonna, Rubik’s cubes, Vanilla Ice (man, I love this song!) and a whole lot of other embarrassing trends a lot of us would like to forget. I was born in 1983 so it’s not really my childhood decade, but I feel like I’ve been influenced by it in so many ways as I have 3 older siblings. My brothers loved The Beastie Boys, they had the original grill sunglasses (not the Kanye West kind!) and my sister loved Tom Cruise, wore leg warmers and would take 15 minutes to tease her fringe/bangs in the morning before school.
Continuing from my other ‘typical outfit‘ posts, here are some ace, radical, fly and often wack 1980’s fashion trends (or mistakes). (Although I still consider slapbands, Rainbow Brite and Care Bears to be cool.)

1980’s Chic
Susie has just passed her drivers license test (after the third attempt, mind you) so she’s all dressed up and ready to party like it’s 1999! Her dad just bought her a VW Cabriolet to celebrate her achievement. It’s completely decked out with Prince and Cyndi Lauper cassette tapes and even a sunroof - way cool! (Click on outfit for product information.)

The Madonna Fan
It’s hard for Mary to relate to or trust people. Madonna posters cover her bedroom walls from the ceiling to the floor. Mary knows she is destined to live the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and she doesn’t mind stepping over people to get there. (Click on outfit for product information.)

MC Hammer In Da House
Yo, fool. If you don’t know of Sammy Jr. yet then you must be living under a rock. It’s best to be on his side at all times - you never know how he’s gonna roll. He lives with his mama and if anyone disrespects her then you have to go through him. He loves his mama. (Click on outfit for product information.)

The 80’s Cutie-pie
Oh my god. Carie just saw the raddest movie in the whole wide world. The Breakfast Club is totally like her school and in a strange way, makes her want to get detention. She’s now completely and utterly in love with Judd Nelson - dreamy! (Click on outfit for product information.)
Next I’ll take a dive into the 90’s! I’m thinking; Smashing Pumpkins, grunge, Beverly Hills 90210 (my first celebrity crushes were Jason Priestley and Luke Perry - ha!) and chunky Spice Girl-esque platform shoes. Oooo, I can’t wait!
So what do you think are some of the hits and misses from the land of the 80’s? Was it all bad? Or is there something you really miss and hope to see a resurgence of?
Big love & way cool hair,

Oooh cute outfits but you forgot the new wavers
i’m from 1982 but what i remember the most fashion-wise of the 80’s is that my dad once took me to a festival in the park on his bike and i remember watching the punkers walk by with all these bright coloured hairs and studded clothing, i want that too was what my 8-year old self said lol.
90’s i love you, those chunky platform ooooh yes i loved those!! And beverly hills <3 I always felt something for David Silver but if anyone asked i said Dylan, heh Wich area was it that it was normal to wear shoulderpadding?

Oh my goodness! Oh, this makes me want to watch a Square Pegs marathon. First off, thank you for posting this. Second of all, I always always always, wanted glasses like the one from your MC Hammer collection. I remember the boys of Saved by the Bell wore them in the infamous Housesitting/Barbra Ann episode.
I think I dressed closely to the last look. Mostly because I was about five when the 80’s ended, so of course I’d dress like a cutie pie! I wore LOTS of tights, and lots of pink.

David Silver wasn’t that bad, I think Ian Ziering was the worst, haha.
Beka - OH my god, I haven’t thought about Square Pegs in YEARS! And Saved by the Bell - Screech will be going in my 90s themed post, for shiz!
Beka, I share your love of the grill glasses. I actually bought a white pair not too long ago, lol.
You would’ve looked SUPER cute in pink and tights!
super kawaii mama - An 80s party? Oh wow, that would’ve been so much fun! And thank you SO much kawaii mama, I feel honoured to be in your link list!! You have made my day
I really appreciate it.
Star - I know! Although I think I love the nostalgia moreso than the actual trends lol. The only thing I’m not a fan of, like Amika mentioned - shoulderpads. I literally shuddered when I typed that, lol.
