Typical 1990’s Outfits
I realised something as I was creating these sets - I love the 90’s! I had completely forgotten about tattoo necklaces, tencel jeans, best friend forever charms, big flowers on straw hats and those little plastic pacifiers! Although I think I love the 90’s because of the reminiscing that accompanied the research, and not so much for the aesthetic value. Although I do like the floral dress and doc martin combo. It never dawned on me that piercings were a big craze in the mid-late 90’s, but it’s true! (I have the scars to prove it.) And canvas shoes - I think I owned about 5 pairs. Only because the quality was terrible and they’d break after a few wears. Let us swear to never buy them again.
Here are some of the lovely and not-so-lovely trends that rocked in the 1990’s:

Early 90’s Teen - Amelia has just had her heart broken. Her boyfriend has been cheating on her with Sara Henderson - the coolest girl in school. She’s taking it hard, but her friends are there to share bucket loads of chocolate chip ice-cream and watch back-to-back episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place. She wouldn’t dare tell her friends, but she thinks Screech from Saved by the Bell is handsome. (Click image for product information.)

Spice Girls Fanatic - Every morning, Matilda wakes up before school and applies her make-up which consists of glitter, glitter and more glitter. She plays the Spice Girls as often as she can, and has even witnessed them live in concert with her mum. She tells all her friends that she wants to be like Ginger Spice, but she secretly wants to be like Posh Spice. She had her tongue pierced last month but her dad doesn’t know. Every time he’s around she avoids talking to him so he doesn’t see it! (Click image for product information.)

Grunge Guy - Hello, hello, hello, how low? Gary always walks with his head down, only looking up every now and then to cross the road. His walkman is constantly playing Nirvana’s Nevermind album. He finds inspiration and joy in headless teddy bears and drowning ants. (Click image for product information.)

90’s Sweetheart - Katie told her friends in a game of truth and dare that she had kissed Samuel. Of course it was a lie, but they don’t know that - yet! She’s quite the deceiver, as she can shift the blame on her little brother and her parents never suspect a thing. Her daddy says she’s his “angel” and with the help of her little brother, she’s going to keep it that way. (Click image for product information.)
Oh! And do you remember that song, Scatman? For me, that would have to be one of the highlights from the 1990’s music charts.
So what would be your worst 90’s fashion mistake? Are there any trends that I missed?

So fun…oh man, I definitely can relate to the 1st outfit. My worst 90’s fashion mistake was wearing a tie-dyed football tee. It was a shirt my friend gave me, and it was hideous. AND, I wore it so often that I matched the rubberbands on my braces to that shirt.
Oh, and since you love Polyvore so much, you should check out the contest on my blog!

And fake piercings! That’s such a 90’s thing, isn’t it? I completely forgot about them. A spider nose piercing sounds cool, actually. Amika, where were you when I was creating these sets! Bindis and No Doubt - the best of the 90’s.
P.S. You have the best crushes! Jared Leto - mmmmm… hehe
.
Shadow.x.Crystal - Haha, you’re a 90’s superstar, my friend.
