How To Change The World - 29th July 2008How To Change The World - 29th July 2008

“No vision and you perish; No Ideal, and you’re lost; Your heart must ever cherish, Some faith at any cost. Some hope, some dream to cling to, Some rainbow in the sky, Some melody to sing to, Some service that is high.” - Harriet Du Autermont

Here are this week’s three deeds to bring about some change, freedom and restoration to you and your universe:

star! Reveal a secret - As you may know, I’m a huge fan of PostSecret. Every week, people from around the world (anonymously) send in a postcard, or photo, or some other image which (usually) reflects a secret that they’ve written on the front. The secret gets posted on the website for millions of people to read each week. The PostSecret community has been known to heal emotional and spiritual wounds, and even save lives through their forum. This is a great outlet for revealing a secret that’s been weighing on your shoulders, and because it’s totally private, you still get the therapeutic benefits without having to confront people face-to-face. You don’t have to use PostSecret, you might just want to stick a post-it note on the fridge at work, or a shop window, or put it in someone’s letter box. Or you could be brave and tell a friend, relative, social worker, or even go to confession! Either way, bottling up secrets and hidden guilts can manifest themselves into serious illnesses and ailments. I once had a fortune cookie that read “there’s no pillow as soft as a clear conscious” - and it’s so true! It’s vital to wake up every morning and have a clear conscious, so why not start by revealing your darkest and deepest secret? You could even write it anonymously in the comments below!

star! Write a list of ‘things to do before you die’ - We all know the saying “live every day like it’s your last”, right? But how many of us actually put that into action? I’ll admit it, I’m guilty of bailing out on things, not taking as many risks as I’d like to, and not putting (all) of my dreams into action. But there’s no time like the present - your life is happening right now. So write a list of all the things you’ve wanted to do in life, even if they seem far-fetched. It could be jumping out of a plane, owning your own coffee shop, telling someone you’re sorry, dyeing your hair pink, learning the salsa or becoming a politician! Write them down and order them from most important to least important. This will give you a good indication of your priorities, values and morals, too. Try and do one of the things on your list at least once a month, and let others know your wishes too. You’ll be surprised how many people will offer their assistance. Check this out for inspiration.

star! Tell the world “I’ll do it, but only if you’ll help” - I found a truly awesome site called PledgeBank, which is where people pledge an act online (one that will change the world for the better, of course, not something like ‘run down the street nekked’), promising to do something but only if a certain amount of other people promise to do it too. When enough people have signed up, everyone undertakes their pledge. It’s the perfect way to make 5, 10 or 500 times of an impact as you would have done by yourself.

What kind of pledge do you think you’d make? And what have you always wanted to do in life but thought it was ‘out of your league’ or you didn’t have the time/money/energy for it?

Big love & cuddle-pie,
