Leadership Development in a strategic organization

Leadership is an important element for an organization to flourish and sustain its business growth. A confident leader at the top of the organizational chart makes a huge contribution and difference to his habitat. Everyone will agree that this is a tried and tested methodology. Human resource experts have cited the importance of leadership at many stages of an organizational structure.

Companies such as Microsoft, Johnson and Jonson, Proctor and Gables have all become testament to what paramount leadership skills can do for the success of a business strategies. They have been pressed in putting processes for leadership development within their system and have successfully produced captains of industry with a great reputation and prestige.

The process of leadership development is a general undertaking for most organizations however. The proponent of leadership is more often understood as a personal attribute and not in mechanisms; what a person can do for the organization. Leadership development is a task undertaken by the Human Resource department where strategic funding and manpower hours are laid out per employee annually.

Business coach structure is based on good morals and intentional performance maximization. It is then no surprise that leadership training becomes optional, depending on the financial and operations stability of a group at a given time period.

The main reason that leadership training takes on a stop and go approach is that good leadership does not define, in operations terms the overall capacity and verifiable impact in the organizations growth and stability. The expectations that leaders can perform miracles, or turn low performers into superstars, charm employees and make the media fall in love with them is a myth.

The desire to provide a stellar and satisfying outcome from leadership training does not provide evidentiary support with respect to gaps and developmental needs exhibited by candidates even after taking leadership programs. The key to a great leadership program is a structured framework which defines leadership goals in terms of quantifiable milestones and provides a standard measure of development efforts versus success rate.
